Hatch Hums to Kennedy - Has He Lost His Mind?

It's no wonder Republicans get trounced on by democrats at every turn - we just keep on giving them ammo. Ted Kennedy, who is facing a serious medical event in his life, has also been an embodiment of everything conservatives are against: pro-abortion, pro illegal immigration, pro activist judges, pro-gay marriage, pro nanny state, pro heavy taxes, let alone his disgraceful killing of a young woman while driving drunk and getting away with it because he is a Kennedy.

Now comes venerable songsmith and senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. Hatch, who entered politics to (as he says) "fight Ted Kennedy," has now written a song in tribute to his "good friend" Ted Kennedy. And of course this song has been chosen by Democrats to be played at their national convention.

According to Boston.com,

The result, "Headed Home," is a lilting ballad that even its author can't repeat without tearing up. The lyrics, he said, refer to Kennedy's heroic return to the Senate where Kennedy has served for almost 46 years and Hatch for 32.

Uh, Orrin, we don't want him in the Senate because he stands for every thing conservatives and your stated principals are against. Something happens to people when they live in Washington for so long; they forget their principles and core values, and the good of the body overtakes the good of the people. It makes you look like a little puppy rolling over on his back panting at the prospect of getting a feel good liberal belly rub. There's a proper decorum for giving comfort to a colleague suffering what Kennedy is going through, but it is another thing to give to an opposing ideology a theme and insinuated support from you that they can use as a political ticket to defeat conservatism.

And if you don't think they will, Orrin, then it's time for you to retire and move home. You've been in Washington too long.

Pour Another Round, Harry!

Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) held a soiree in Washington to celebrate the release of his book “The Good Fight.” Senator Reid, who states that he is a Latter-day Saint, feted his guests with plenty of alcohol, serving “watermelon-tinis” during the event held at The Source restaurant at the Newseum in Washington. According to Anne Schroeder Mullins of the Politico, the party was managed by Marc Adelman, who Reid described as “my court jester.”

Mullins wrote in an email that although Reid himself drank water, not only were alcoholic drinks served, but there was a whole theme of drinks with special Harry names. A staffer at Senator Reid’s office didn’t seem too conflicted by the fact that Reid, who claims to espouse the LDS doctrine of eschewing any form of alcoholic beverage, served it up in apparently large quantities to his guests at his book signing party. “Not everyone there was Mormon,” said the staffer (We don’t think she could spell let alone understand the word ‘hypocrisy”).

Compare and contrast Reid’s pandering away of his principles to that of Admiral Paul Yost, Commandant of the US Coast Guard in 1987. Yost, who is LDS, hosted many parties because of his ranking position in the Coast Guard. However, they served nothing stronger than sparkling grape juice when they entertained. “When people come to my house, they don’t expect to have a drink,” said Yost. When he became Admiral, a senior officer’s wife asked Yost’s wife whether or not the Yosts would begin serving alcohol at their parties. “I just told her we would be doing the same thing we had always done,” said Mrs. Yost. “It wouldn’t change because Paul had a higher rank.” Apparently you can succeed in Washington without sacrificing your standards.

Mullins also confirmed that Reid jokingly called her publication “a s*** of a magazine,” using profanity for all to hear. Not only is Reid a failed example of maintaining his principles by having alcohol served at his party, but his use of profanity negates any possible example that a faithful Mormon could have on such a large group of people. As Mullins said regarding Reid’s potty mouth, “to each his own, right? I mean he does work on CapHill, the college of all adults.” Indeed, it appears Reid has no qualm behaving publicly at the expense of his beliefs. Unlike Admiral Yost, Reid is willing to change his values to go along with the crowd.

As Harmon Killebrew said, “I wish all of our Latter-day Saint youth knew this—you don’t have to go along with the crowd when the crowd is wrong.” How do we expect the youth to know when the adults we hold as LDS examples don't know, or don't care?

Global Warming Theory Falling Apart Faster Than An Iceberg

What do you do if natural data contradicts your absurd "global warming" theory and that the earth is not warming due to man's interference?

a. Admit your hypothesis was wrong and apologize.
b. Petition the government to stop spending federal (our) money on this hoax.
c. Claim that what it means is that the earth is really just going to stop and take a break from global warming, but it will be back!

The most absurd answer of course is c. And that is precisely what scientists are claiming now that their man made global warming, oops "climate change" has turned out to be oh so very wrong.

According to the online Daily Telegraph:

"Researchers studying long-term changes in sea temperatures said they now expect a "lull" for up to a decade while natural variations in climate cancel out the increases caused by man-made greenhouse gas emissions.

Melting icebergs: The study predicts the IPCC's 0.3ºC temperature rise for the next decade may not happen
The average temperature of the sea around Europe and North America is expected to cool slightly over the decade while the tropical Pacific remains unchanged.

This would mean that the 0.3°C global average temperature rise which has been predicted for the next decade by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change may not happen, according to the paper published in the scientific journal Nature."(emphasis added).

You mean the IPCC received a Nobel Peace Prize for something they got wrong? But of course to cover their backside they now predict it will resume in, uh, 2015, yeah that's the ticket! That way they can make a federal money grab to gear up for that disastrous day in 2015 when it will start again. Try this: go to a bank and request a huge loan. Tell them that you projected a huge increase in business this year to provide collateral, but natural trends will stop your income until 2015. But of course the bank should give you the loan anyway because using the same science that miscalculated business this year is the same science claiming your business will really take off in 2015.

See how far that gets you other than a boot out the door, which is the only thing these global warming wacko activists and scientists deserve.

William F. Buckley Passes Away at Age 82

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

America has lost one of its finest writers and thinkers. Bill Buckley was one of the great founders of the modern conservative movement. He brought conservative thought into the political mainstream, and helped lay the intellectual foundation for America's victory in the Cold War and for the conservative movement that continues to this day. He will be remembered for his principled thought and beautiful writing — as well as his personal warmth, wit, and generous spirit. His legacy lives on in the ideas he championed and in the magazine he founded — National Review.

Laura and I send our prayers to Chris Buckley, the Buckley family, and all who loved this good man.

How Far Does "Tolerance" Take Us?

This is a picture of a lovely young woman, Banaz Mahmood, a 20 year old girl living in Birmingham England. At least she used to. When Banaz refused to live in an arranged marriage and fell in love with another man, her father ordered her to be killed. On the orders of her 52-year-old father and uncle, Ari Mahmod, 50, she was strangled with a bootlace by Kurdish assassins, her body stuffed in a suitcase and buried six feet down in the garden of a house belonging to an associate in Birmingham.

Two of the murderers, who fled back to Iraq after this horrific so-called "honour killing", have since boasted of raping Banaz before she died in January 2006.

This was an instance of an approved "honor killing" under supposed sharia law.

The acceptance of barbaric and inhumane cultural habits are not only being tolerated by the left but are actually being enabled. Sharia law is supposedly based on the Koran but contains Machiavellian punishments found nowhere in the Koran and manufactured by intolerant Muslims. This law allows "honor killings," where girls can be stoned to death for simply being in the presence of another man. Other cases have resulted in lashings and death sentences for being in the car alone with a male not a relative. According to an article in The Times of London;

According to the human rights ministry in northern Iraq, 598 women have been burnt, beaten, shot, strangled, thrown from tall buildings, force-fed with lethal drugs, crushed by vehicles, drowned, decapitated or made to kill themselves so far this year, exceeding the 553 recorded for the whole of 2006.

One would expect a civilized society would renounce this barbaric practice and the "law" which allows it. Instead, many notables are claiming that allowing it is inevitable, or that banning such a law is offensive to the culture who practices it. Observe:

Times of London: "The Archbishop of Canterbury came under fierce attack last night from the Government, his own Church and other religions after he advocated the adoption of parts of Sharia, or Islamic law, in Britain."

ABC News: A lecturer in Islamic law at Sydney's University of Technology says a Sharia council is an option for Australia.

CBC News: Misuse of Shariah doesn't mean it should be excluded from Canadian civil law

Front Page Mag: France is Not a Western Country Anymore

These are a few examples of how the politically correct and testosterone-less governments in the west are cow towing to the many muslim immigrants they have brought in. In our own California schools, episodes of sex segregation in elementary school, allowing muslim prayer during class time and many other accommodations not given to other religions are being documented. Just try to get release time LDS seminary in California schools and the salivating cry of "separation of church and state" will be bellowed in your face. Yet tolerance is given to muslims. Why?

Helaman from the Book of Mormon describes how the Nephites and their culture and laws began to deteriorate; one instance was failing to punish those responsible for crimes and who were taking over governments:

But behold, Satan did stir up the hearts of the more part of the Nephites, insomuch that they did unite with those bands of robbers, and did enter into their covenants and their oaths, that they would protect and preserve one another in whatsoever difficult circumstances they should be placed, that they should not suffer for their murders, and their plunderings, and their stealings

And thus they might murder, and plunder, and steal, and commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness, contrary to the laws of their country and also the laws of their God. (Helaman 6:22,23)

Some feebly try to argue that Sharia law is a peaceable law which merely resolves family disputes. The problem is, these family disputes are settled by:

Stoning a 17 year old girl to death for having a boyfriend.

Gang raping a new bride after her wedding because of a relative's actions.

Sodomizing a 12 year old boy for being in the presence of a woman from another tribe,
his sister is raped when she pleads for mercy.

Pushing a 16 year old girl off of a balcony as an honor killing.

Arresting an American businesswoman sitting with a male coworker (not her husband) in a public Starbucks coffee shop.

Killing your 16 year old daughter for refusing to wear a hijab

Need we go on? If you avoided reading those articles because they aren't fun to read, then you remain ignorant on what relaxing our laws and standards to allow Sharia law will do to our society. The left wing, politically correct sharia apologists who would have us change our constitution to allow child murders and rapes as a "custom" of immigrants should be thwarted at every step. Of course they don't start that way. It begins with "cultural concessions" such as preferential treatment, turning a blind eye to impropriety, building prayer rooms at airports, putting foot washing sinks in schools, that's how it creeps in. The agenda is clear. The Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR, is a group devoted to instilling Muslim culture in America. Their chairman Omar M. Ahmad is quoted as saying:

"Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth."

He who hath eyes to see, let him see. That's our view.

Romney Bows Out; Lib in Sheep's Clothing McCain Lingers On

Mitt Romney has suspended his campaign, in effect bowing out of the 2008 Presidential race. A combination of prejudice against a Mormon candidate and Washington insiders blocking the man from the outside led to his low delegate total. Mike Huckabee, who will never be nominated and is hoping for the position of White House dog catcher, assisted McCain by taking delegates a from MCCain to beat Romney. Perhaps this was good; it gave Americans a true view of how the shady backroom shenanigans of old time politics are still very much with us today.

Mark Halperin, conservative columnist, came out with his Ten Things Mitt Romney Could Have Done Differently:

1. Could have run less as a social conservative and more as a can-do technocrat.

2. Could have delivered his religion and faith speech earlier in his campaign.

3. Could have run negative ads against McCain (backlash and ire be darned).

4. Could have recognized that his biggest problem was a perceived lack of humanity, and addressed it with humor, purpose, and authenticity.

5. Could have put his wife and sons more front and center in the campaign.(just kidding)

6. Could have taken a risk and separated himself more from President Bush.

7. Could have identified Huckabee as a genuine threat before it was too late to stop the Arkansan’s momentum — in Iowa and beyond.

8. Could have consistently presented his own personality—disciplined, ambitious, take-charge, impersonal, passionate about his family and his religion—rather than tried to fit himself into a series of established Republican templates.

9. Could have insisted his warring advisers either make peace with each other or quit the campaign.

10. Could have regularly addressed one or two policy issues and/or themes that he really believed in — like change, anti-Washington, the economy.

They're Already Writing Mitt's Epitah

The pundits at Fox News are saying that if Romney fails to win New Hampshire, that's the end of Romney 2008.

John Derbyshire has commented on the fact that Romney believes in a religion based on gold tablets and magic spectacles. The fact remains is that the Church has come to the forefront of the country due to Romney's candidacy, and interest raised in the Church will pay off in the future.

As for Derbyshire, here's a few facts to consider: at the time of Joseph Smith, ancient records on metal plates were unheard of. Today it's a well known fact that records were made on metal plates for preservation, including a Hebrew record on a brass plate which you can see with your own eyes in the Dead Sea Scroll exhibit. Derbyshire and others have ridiculed the tenets of our religion as "odd."

What about a religion that reveres a man who changed water into wine at a wedding, healed people when they touched his clothing, failed to condemn a prostitute, was not an educated man but a simple carpenter, and was convicted of a crime and executed for it yet told everyone to follow his ways? What nut would believe in that load of tripe? Well, us for one, and every faithful Christian who believes Jesus Christ was the Savior of all mankind. It should not be considered strange that the man restoring true Christianity to the earth would not be availed of the same attributes in simply bringing forth another testament of Jesus Christ. What is strange is that Romney's faith was made a political issue, while those who have no faith or a surface faith are not questioned.

No Mormon Jerks?

Mike Potemra served as an aide to President Reagan, and as a research assistant in the White House speechwriting office. He subsequently worked at President Reagan’s grassroots PAC, the Citizens for America, and as speechwriter to three U.S. Senators (Kasten of Wisconsin, Durenberger of Minnesota, and DeWine of Ohio). He posted his feelings about Mormons which gave us pause to assess how others see us:

In my decades' worth of meeting people from many different religious backgrounds, I have found that in every faith tradition-Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, what have you-there is roughly the same proportion of nice people and jerks. To this rule there is one conspicuous exception: Mormons. I have yet to meet a single Mormon who has been a jerk-and I have met many LDS believers. As someone who grew up in Rudy Giuliani's faith, and is now somewhere between Mike Huckabee's and John McCain's, I find Mitt Romney's religious background a factor that makes me more, rather than less, likely to vote for him.

Apparently Mr. Potemra has never met Harry Reid.
